About FOcus Like A Mother
Focus for Parents: A Personal Journey
During her pregnancy with her son, Megan, our coach, experienced what many mothers do – forgetfulness commonly known as ‘Pregnancy Brain.’ She initially thought it was an old wives’ tale, but when she became pregnant again over two years later, she realized it was more than just a myth. Her brain was adapting, rewiring itself for the new challenges of motherhood. ‘Mommy Brain’ is real!
Through productivity coaching, she discovered strategies to regain her focus. In the process, she realized that specialized productivity coaching for parents is a much-needed service. This personal journey led to the creation of Focus Like A Mother just a few months after her daughter was born.
“You’re not losing your mind; your brain is upgrading with new capabilities, they just take time and a few reboots to fully adapt.
Most importantly, you’re not alone!”
– Megan, Productivity & Focus Coach
Pregnancy & Beyond: Redefining ‘Mom Brain’
‘Mom Brain’ or ‘Mommy Brain’ is not necessarily a “bad” thing but a natural adaptation many mothers and parents experience. It’s a term that describes the cognitive changes and forgetfulness that some parents may experience during pregnancy, after childbirth, and during parenthood. These changes are linked to hormonal fluctuations and the significant demands of raising young children – parenting is stressful!
The adaptations our brains make as parents cause short-term frustration but result in long-term gains. ‘Mom Brain’ isn’t a deficit we’re stuck with forever; it is a series of smaller transition periods. Our brains rewire key processing centers, resulting in faster learning of new skills, responding to more social and sensory cues, and balancing more demands than we used to.
‘Mom Brain’ is a superpower!
Mothers can navigate this phase with greater understanding and self-compassion by understanding ‘Mommy Brain’ and finding strategies to manage it.
‘Dad Brain,’ ‘Parent Brain,’ and caregiving
Focus Like A Mother programs can benefit anyone navigating the challenges of parenthood, including mothers, fathers, and caregivers who want to enhance their productivity and regain their focus while managing the demands of raising children.
Whether you’re a stay-at-home parent, a working parent, or a single parent, developing skills to manage “mom brain” or “dad brain” can help you feel more in control and effective in your daily life.
Redefining ‘Mom Brain’ and Empowering Parents
Meet Megan King
Megan is a mom of two—a toddler and a preschooler—and her son and daughter both keep her busy! She was inspired to start Focus Like A Mother while on her journey through parenthood. Megan is an engineer with an MBA and used to be a professional problem solver and process improver for big companies. She still does consulting work in that field, but that’s not what makes her want to change the world.
After experiencing ‘Mom Brain’ firsthand and learning more about it, Megan found that her passion is helping parents solve their brain fog problems and find processes to streamline their lives as caregivers. She returned to school and became a coach to gain skills and experience holding space for and supporting others.
As a member of the International Coaching Federation and a Professional Coach, Megan blends her parenthood journey, problem-solving experience, and coaching skills daily. She uses proven strategies and shares scientific research, meeting parents where they are and empowering them to find and follow their own path back to clarity.
She looks forward to validating and learning from fellow parents. Megan is on a mission to redefine ‘Mom Brain’ and foster success in parents’ lives worldwide.
